What do you see?

Blind from birth? Are you blind? well, if you are reading this blog of course you're not (I hear you say or should I say think?) but could you be and not realise it? Hmm

Extract 1/3: 'And as Jesus passed by He saw a man which was blind from his birth' - King James Bible John Chapter 9 verse 1.

What do you see? Do you see yourself? Can you see those around you? Can they see you? Being blind from birth is a long time, it feels final. There may be areas in our lives that we just can't see, until an experience 'opens' up our eyes...you know...those 'Aha' moments.

The more we interact with different people - different to us in gender, age, race, ability, disability, beliefs, sexuality, language and location, then we really begin to see ourselves and  those we come into contact with. What do you see?

Extract 2/3: 'And His disciples asked Him saying 'Master who did sin, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?'- verse 2

Who sinned? In the world of Christianity, this is a big question to ask. There are many 'churchgoers' or 'bible readers who would have an answer to that question. 'Yep, it was the man, he did something wrong' or 'Oh! it's from birth, so it must be his mother' or It's his father because it all comes from the male lineage' or finally maybe 'They weren't married, so God has punished them'.  How often do we decide we know what's wrong by what we see?Who sinned? Who did something wrong? Have you? What do you see?

Extract 3/3: 'Jesus answered, neither hath this man sinned nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him' - verse 3

Neither....Nor! So Jesus (Leader of the Free World) said no-one sinned! No one did anything to cause this man to be born blind. No-one! Many non believers would agree with that statement. It would seem silly to think that someone did wrong...wouldn't it? But some would. Think about a time when something went wrong...were you able to identify who had done wrong? What if no one did anything wrong but something still went wrong..is that possible? This may all seem simple and straightforward but how many of us do exactly that...blame and make decisions based on what we see? Is it based on what you think or what you know? Has anyone ever accused you incorrectly? How does it feel? Do you still feel emotional about it even if it is in the past? Have you let go? Can you let go? What can you see?

Made manifest. When I read this part of the extract, I had always believed that because Jesus had healed the blind man, that this was the  resulting 'works of God' being 'made manifest'. In this case it was (most probably) but what about everyone else who has these challenges in life, visible or non-visible?

One day while watching TV, I saw a young man who had no arms, talking about his life and the challenges he faced on a daily basis. After his talk, the young man moved to another stool and began to sing a song he had written. He also began playing the guitar with his feet. I cried while watching this and the 'blind man' extract came alive to me in a 'new way'. Here was a beautiful example of the 'works of God' being made manifest in that young man. He triumphed over his physical, mental and emotional challenges. It showed me and all the viewers who were able-bodied, what can be achieved if we only believe.

He was made to be an 'overcomer'. He was born to be a musician. He was born to be a singer-songwriter. He is married and he has released an album of songs. This young man may not have achieved all this if he was not physically challenged. What do you see?

What are you doing with  your challenges?
Are you overcoming or have you been overcome by them?
What have you been born to do?
Are you succeeding?
Are you inspiring?
Are you living?
Are you being?
Do you believe?

You can read the full extract for yourself in John - Chapter 9 verses 1 to 7. I used the Kings James version of the Bible but you can find a version that suits you best...there's loads out there.

Have an insightful week.

One mouth is really enough!

What we allow to come out of our mouths could get us into problems.

'Sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never harm me...'*
What!....Who wrote that?

Have you ever said something that you regret? Sometimes our words can cause distress, sometimes we over-promise or break a promise. Sometimes, we may say something which has a devastating effect for someone else.

Jeph was having a hard time. He was not a popular guy. He worked with colleagues who really did not like him but they needed his help to deal with a problem. They recognised he was the right man to lead them to success, so reluctantly they asked him to help.

It was a really big problem, so Jeph felt he needed a bit of help, as he did not want to flop with his colleagues right behind him. He said a little prayer promising that if he was successful, he would sacrifice the first thing that came out of his house.
Why would someone say that?

Well...I'm sure you can imagine what happened next, yes! he was successful. He was so very happy. Everyone was happy!

Ever had a great day at work? You have clearly won and your 'haters' can see your victory. How happy would you be?

Jeph arrived home. Someone was running out to greet him.......The first person out the door, dancing with joy, was his only daughter. Her dad was back, safe and sound. Dad was her hero. Jeph tore at his clothes. He fell to the ground.

What would you do? what would you say?

Jeph explained what he had done...he had made a wild, rash promise to guarantee his success.

One mouth is really enough for each of us.

If there is anything you need to apologise for...why not apologise?

Words can hurt but they can also lift. We all know it, we may expect it but do we express it to those around us?

What can you do today, to lift yourself? Who can you encourage unconditionally?

Jeph surprisingly with his daughters agreement, fulfilled his promise. They had lived in Biblical times (Judges 11) but what a lesson to learn!

Let's all watch what we say. It may not be as damning as Jeph's story but it might hurt just as much!

We have two eyes, two ears but I think 'One mouth is really more than enough'.

Are you the One?

It only takes one of us to stand up for good,
It only takes one of us to stand up for love
It only takes one of us to jump for joy.
It only takes one of us to start a smile revolution.
It only takes one of us to seek peace.
It only takes one of us to stay humble.
It only takes one of us to 'get it together'....fix our life.
It only takes one of us to speak truth.

It only takes one to create.
It only takes one to get up!
It only takes one to give; to share.
It only takes one...

Richard Branson is one,
Steve Jobs was one
Oprah is one
Simon Cowell is one
Maya Angelou was one
Gandhi was one
Vivienne Westwood is one
Nelson Mandela was one
Mother Theresa was one
Jesus Christ is one

Am I one?
Are you one?

Look around...are you moving?

It only takes one!

A Chain of Events........Let us begin well.

Happy New Year to you all...it is 2013!

We've got 365 days to choose how we will use them.

Some of us have plans set for this year and the following number of years. Some of us have no plans and are not sure what will happen next.
(Well actually, none of us really knows what will happen next but we all hope for the best.....plans or no plans!)

How well did your the previous 365 days go? Did you have a plan?

I don't believe in good luck or bad luck BUT I believe in life with it's interuptions, lessons and trials that come to test or to stretch us, sometimes even to stop us......Chains of events that pull out our potential or our short comings giving us the opportunity to change, developing into someone better than we were in the previous slice of time - the old chains, the old year.

So, Let us begin well.

'Well' is whatever YOU decide is 'well'.

Now, we all know that it may make others unhappy when we make a decision. We cannot control how others feel about it but I would like to add, we should aim to do well without having to harm anyone else.

What is really great (i think), is when we can make a decision which not only benefits us but others too.

I would like to suggest creating a 'chain of events'.
Instead of thinking of resolutions or goals (which is the end game)and not achieve them.... why not create the chain of events that will lead to the resolution or goal being achieved at the earliest possible point. As my Mentor recently quoted 'with a chain of events, each stage is mapped out, so even if life interupts the flow for a moment, you can pick up from where you left off, no matter how big or long the moment'.

For example:
1. I want to write a blog for the New Year but also for the Old Year.
What do i do?
2. My blog will be called 'endings and beginnings'. I want to DeSkribe how well we end and begin a year.
I had planned to write and publish it on 31st December 2012.
3. The time i wish to write the blog crosses the New Year celebrations (a minor interruption).
What should i do?
4. Why not, Split my blog in two...? the portion on endings publish in 2012 and the portion on beginnings in 2013.
The links of the chain remain in the same order...write a blog; edit the blog; publish the blog; only the dates the actions take place now differ, some have been split in two.

Yes, it is a simple method but some of the simplest things in life always seem the most challenging to complete well (or is that just me?)

Just be sure that YOUR chain of events results in the resolution or goal that you were aiming for. Get someone to be your personal accountant (nothing to do with finances of course) to check with you from time to time, to ensure you are following your chain successfully.

We know these things but it is the doing that makes them empowering. All bloggers have plans (no doubt) but it is how we apply these simple methods everywhere else in our lives, thet reflects real success and empowerment.

Let us begin well and in doing so, end well.

Do you have a method for beginning well? Why, not share it with us?

I describe,,,,you decide!

A Chain of Events.....Endings

The end of the year 2012..is upon us (in the UK) in a few minutes time.

How will it end..?

How has it ended for you?
Every year i always come across people who say that the year, regardless of it's number was terrible and they are glad it's over! Some say it went quickly and they cannot believe it's gone!!!

Here in the UK, many will be sad to see it go because it was so exciting with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

There are many who are happy it is the last day of the year and look forward to making plans so their next year is better......really?? Have they achieved it previously???

The year will be ending as it started with a day of 24 hours...some of it daytime and some of it night......because of it's number many of us behave differently but let's get real..it is just another day! Now don't get me wrong,,,,I love the holiday season and all it's celebrations but we can sometimes make a drama out of the ordinary!

I feel we should celebrate every day or whatever days we would like....some people have not lived to see today or may not see tomorrow.... Let's not take it for granted, let's not waste it, let's end it well.

Celebrate our achievements! we all had some..like waking up in the morning, having a sound mind, having a roof over our heads, having family, having water to drink or food to eat...having a friend,,,,,having a pet! In fact, if you can read this...you can be thankful for that..the ability to read, use a computer, to understand, to think, to see, to walk away.

I think this year was a long as the previous year and as short as the previous year. Next year will be the same, whether i get there or not!

The greatest thing about the New Year is that it is a blank canvas which we can use whichever way we want...YES, there is always a choice....

Let's end this one well..........and meet on the other side of the day in 2013.....come follow me... I describe, YOU decide!!!

Congratulations...YOU HAVE MADE IT!
